EU leaders agree on migrant deal with Turkey

President of the European Council Donald Tusk has confirmed all EU leaders have reached an agreement with Turkey's prime minister to curb the migration crisis.

The new arrangements could come into force as soon as Sunday after a revised deal was reached between Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoglu and European Council president Donald Tusk in Brussels.

PM outlines priorities for Europe in migrant crisis

David Cameron will today call on Europe to tackle three main points in the migrant crisis as the UK begins to provide Royal Navy support to a Nato mission against people smuggling.

At an EU summit in Brussels, the Prime Minister will call on European partners to prioritise:

  • Breaking the link between getting on a boat and getting resettlement in Europe by smashing the trafficking gangs and increasing the return of illegal migrants
  • Supporting Turkey, already hosting 2.6 million migrants and with many more sheltering on its border with Syria
  • Providing technical assistance to Greece so it can accelerate the processing of migrant claims and return illegal migrants to their countries of origin
