EU row: Cameron has 'low opinion of British people'

Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith has accused the Prime Minister of having "a low opinion of the British people" by downplaying the UK's prospects if it left the EU.

It comes after a Sunday newspaper column in which David Cameron accused MPs backing an EU exit of wanting to take "the gamble of the century" with the country's future.

Amid rising tensions between the pro- and anti-Brexit camps, Mr Cameron has reportedly been threatened with a challenge to his leadership unless he tones down attacks on MPs backing the "leave" campaign.

Nigel Farage dismisses 'pathetic' EU renegotiation deal

Ukip leader and Member of the European Parliament, Nigel Farage, has dismissed David Cameron's deal as "truly pathetic" as he urged voters to take the "golden opportunity" to get the UK out of the EU.

Reacting to the PM's negotiations in Brussels, Mr Farage said: "I believe in Britain. We are good enough to be an independent, self-governing nation outside of the EU. This is our golden opportunity.

"This is a truly pathetic deal. Let's Leave the EU, control our borders, run our own country and stop handing £55 million every day to Brussels."

He added that the "fundamental issue" of controlling the UK's borders was "not even discussed".
