Countries including South Africa and Trinidad and Tobago have confirmed their first cases of Zika virus.
More than 5,000 pregnant women in Colombia have contracted the virus, its government has said.
The first cases in Ireland of two people infected with the Zika virus have been reported by the Irish Health Service Executive.
The two patients have a history of travelling to an affected country.
The two individuals, whose cases are unrelated and neither of whom are at risk of pregnancy, are currently well and fully recovered, the HSE said in a statement.
"The finding of Zika cases in Ireland is not an unexpected event as many other European countries have reported cases as a result of travel to affected areas," the statement said.
Britain's camp for the Rio Olympics should be moved to a Zika-free location outside Brazil, Jessica Ennis-Hill's coach has said.

The government has told airlines to take the measure on all flights travelling to the UK from countries with confirmed transmission of Zika.
