David Bowie: World pays respects after music icon's death

Tributes have poured in across the world for musician David Bowie, after he died from cancer aged 69.

Hundreds gathered in his birthplace of Brixton to celebrate the life of a man whose career spanned six decades, while tributes were also left at his home in New York, his star on the Hollywood Boulevard and in Berlin, where he lived during perhaps his most fruitful creative period in the 1970s.

According to a statement on the singer's Facebook page, the performer died on Sunday, surrounded by his loved ones.

David Bowie's son tweets 'thank-you' message to fans

David Bowie's son has tweeted his thanks to supporters and fans for their "incredibly kind words" following his father's death.

Duncan Jones posted a thumbs-up image with the caption "everything is good", writing: "Hi all. Just wanted to thank you for the incredibly kind words & thoughts. I'll be easing my way back into Twitter."

Bowie died on 10 January aged 69, following an 18-month battle with cancer.
