'At least 28 killed' in Burkina Faso hotel siege

At least 28 people of 18 different nationalities have been killed in an attack by Islamist militants at a hotel in Burkina Faso's capital.

The Al-Qaeda linked Islamic Maghreb militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack which has been described as "cowardly and vile", by the nation's president.

Four attackers, including two women, are said to have been killed during a security operation which freed 126 hostages.

Meanwhile, two Austrian citizens, a doctor and his wife, have been kidnapped in northern Burkina Faso, the country's security ministry said.

Two French nationals among dead in Burkina Faso hotel siege

Two French nationals were killed in the Burkina Faso hotel siege, a French Foreign Ministry official told Reuters.

They were among 23 dead killed in the attack on the hotel by Islamist militants in Ouagadougou, the country's capital.
