Homes evacuated as river bursts its banks after heavy rain causes flooding in Scotland

Scores of homes have been evacuated in Aberdeenshire after the River Don burst its banks and the River Ythan threatened to overflow, while people in an area of Aberdeen were advised to leave their properties.

Roads have been closed and trains and flights cancelled in Aberdeen and across the surrounding region as water levels reached record highs.

Scenes of devastation as Storm Frank hits UK

There were scenes of devastation in parts of the UK this morning after heavy rain and winds battered the country.

The sixth major storm to hit the country this winter, dubbed Storm Frank, began sweeping across the UK and Ireland overnight.

Amber weather warnings were issued this morning for Scotland and parts of northern England, as thousands of homes north of the border were left without power.

And inspections were beginning at Tadcaster Bridge in north Yorkshire, which collapsed overnight.

Three severe flood warnings, all issued for the River Yarrow at Croston, have been sent out by the Environment Agency, signalling imminent danger and a possible threat to life.

Some 46 other flood warnings and 86 flood alerts have also been issued.
