Des Lynam: Jimmy Hill was one of football's most influential figures

Desmond Lynam has paid tribute to Jimmy Hill, saying that the broadcaster was "one of the most influential figures in English football".

I am so sorry to hear that Jimmy has died. He had been one of the most influential figures in English football and had a long high-profile role in the televising of the game.

He was a valued and highly talented colleague with a sharp incisive mind and excellent communication skills.

He was also a true and loyal friend and great fun.

I have much missed his company in the last few years since he became ill with Alzheimer's.
