Tim Peake's parents joke: 'We wish he'd become a banker'

The parents of British astronaut Tim Peake have joked they wished he had chosen to be a banker instead, as he prepares for a six-month mission aboard the International Space Station.

Speaking ahead of the launch in Kazakhstan, Angela Peake said: "I'm just glad that we're almost there now - Tim has worked very hard for this and it has been a long haul."

"We used to joke when this first started - I said: 'I wish you could be a banker."

Major Peake's father Nigel added that he was "enormously proud" of his son and thanked the British public for the "stupendous" support that he had been shown in the lead-up to the launch.
