Nearly 10,000 Brits flown home from Sharm el-Sheikh

Nearly 10,000 people have been flown back to the UK from Sharm el-Sheikh following the Russian jet crash.

The Department for Transport said more than 9,600 had been brought home since Friday.

Around 20,000 Britons were at the Egyptian resort when flights were suspended over security fears.

'Special measures' to bring Brits back from Sharm

"Special measures" are being put in place to fly stranded Britons back from Sharm el-Sheikh tomorrow, Philip Hammond said.

"These are special additional measures, not necessarily something that we could do on a sustainable basis but something that we will put in as a short term special measure to get back home the people who are there now," he told Good Morning Britain.

"The airline industry is indicating that they expect by tomorrow to be in a position to start bringing people out with those measures in place."

British authorities were working closely with their Egyptian counterparts and the airlines to help stranded Brits, he added.

He later said that 19 flights from the UK, which would have brought back British tourists, had been cancelled.
