North Korea marks 70 years of ruling party

North Korea has celebrated the 70th anniversary of its ruling Workers' Party this weekend.

The main celebrations were held on Saturday when the country hosted a huge military parade attended by Supreme leader Kim Jong-un who told gathered troops in Pyongyang's main Kim Il Sung Square that his country was ready to fight "any kind of war waged by the US".

On Sunday, as the celebrations drew to a close crowds were treated to a special show at the country's only dolphinarium as 10,000 performers entertained at a special gala to celebrate seven decades of party rule.

Aircraft flew over Pyongyang in formation as part of ongoing celebrations of the 70th anniversary of North Korea's ruling Workers' Party.

One set of aircraft formed the number 70 in the skies above Kim Il Sung Square.

Huge lines of military equipment, including tanks, have also been shown off in the square in front of leader Kim Jong-un.
