US journalists killed on live TV were both shot in the head

The two journalists killed during a live TV report were both shot in the head.

Reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, died of gunshot wounds to the head and body, a Virginia coroner said.

Their former colleague Vester Flanagan shot himself when police caught up with him three hours from the scene of the killings.

TV channel: A terrible crime against two fine journalists

TV channel WDBJ7 said "our hearts are broken" after two of its journalists were shot dead during a live broadcast.

WDBJ7 General Manager Jeff Marks confirmed the deaths on air:

It is my very sad duty to report that we have determined through the help of the police and our employees that Alison and Adam died this morning shortly after 6.45am when the shots rang out.

We do not know the motive. We do not know who the suspect or who the killer is.

We we do know that the Franklin County Sheriff - they are working very diligently to track down both the motive and the person responsible for this terrible crime against two fine journalists.

I cannot tell you how much they were loved Alison and Adam by the WDBJ7 team.

Our hearts are broken and our sympathies go to the entire staff here and the families of Adam ward and Alison Parker who were just out doing their jobs today.
