Right-to-die campaigner leaves parting message to friends

A terminally-ill British man who travelled to Switzerland's Dignitas euthanasia unit to die left a farewell message to friends.

Bob Cole, 68, was suffering from an aggressive form of lung cancer.

Bob Cole's life was ended in Switzerland yesterday, 18 months after his wife Ann made the same journey to die.

According to The Sun, Mr Cole listened to Beethoven's Ode to Joy in his best suit as he sipped the lethal cocktail that ended his life at 2.20pm.

There comes a time to give up the struggle, and that time has arrived for me.

Of course I would have liked another few years, fishing, walking, being with my old and new friends.

Don't cry for me - remember the good times and get on and have more.

– Bob Cole's message to friends

Mr Cole, who invited ITV to travel with him to Switzerland, said he was left with little choice but to go abroad to end his life as the law in the UK bans assisted suicides.
