France steps up search efforts for MH370 debris

France is sending extra planes, boats and helicopters to search for debris from missing Malaysian Airlines plane MH370 along the coast of Reunion Island.

It comes after a wing fragment and a plane window were found on the remote Indian Ocean island.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott hailed the discovery of the wing fragment, stating that the "baffling mystery" of the flight's disappearance was closer to being solved, while Malaysia Airlines said it was a "major breakthrough" in resolving the mystery.

Air accident investigators think suspected plane debris which has washed up off the east coast of Africa is from the same type of aircraft as missing Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370.

A US official said that investigators have a "high degree of confidence" that aircraft debris found in the Indian Ocean is from a Boeing 777 - the same model as the doomed Malaysian airlines flight that vanished last year.

No trace has been found of the Malaysia Airlines jet, which disappeared in March last year carrying 239 passengers and crew from Kuala Lumpur, bound for Beijing, and is now one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history.
