Government backs gender gap pay audits

The government is to press ahead with plans to force large firms to disclose data on the gender pay gap among staff.

A consultation on the plans - introduced in the final months of the last coalition government - is to begin today.

'Gender pay gap is biggest for women aged over 40'

The Minister for Women and Equalities has said the gender pay gap is greatest for women aged between 40 and in their Sixties.

Nicky Morgan told Good Morning Britain the gap was at an all-time low but "more needs to be done".

It comes as the Prime Minister announced all companies with more than 250 employees will have to publish the average pay of male and female employees.
