Magdelena Luczak, the mother of murdered four-year-old Daniel Pelka, has died at HMP Foston Hall Prison, the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) has said.

Officials at the ministry said Luczak, 29 - who was jailed for the murder alongside child's stepfather Mariusz Krezolek in 2013 - was found unresponsive in her cell at around 7.15 this morning.

"Paramedics attended and she was pronounced dead at the scene," an MOJ spokesman said.

Luczak and Krezolek received life sentences with a minimum of 30 years in 2013 after Pelka was beaten to death following years of starvation and mistreatment.

Pelka weighed just 1st 9lbs when he denied, after being subjected to "incomprehensible" cruelty which included being forced to perform punishment exercises, being poisoned with salt and being tortured.

Both had appeals to the sentences rejected in December by the Court of Appeal.
