US President Barack Obama called the same-sex marriage ruling "a victory for America."
"This morning the Supreme Court recognised that the Constitution guarantees marriage equality," Obama told journalists in the White House Rose Garden.
"In doing so they've reaffirmed that all Americans are entitled to the equal protection of the law, that all people should be treated equally regardless of who they are or who they love," he continued.
"This decision affirms what millions of Americans already believe in their hearts - when all Americans are treated as equal we are all more free."
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
The US president also shared a post on Twitter accusing Dr Anthony Fauci of misleading the public over hydroxychloroquine.
