Police have found "no evidence" a copy of the latest Fifty Shades novel was stolen a week before it was due to be released.

The latest offering by author EL James, Grey, tells the story from lead character Christian Grey's perspective.

It was feared pirate copies may be circulated if thieves had got their hands on it.

But a spokeswoman for Kent Police said: "Following a report that one book had been stolen after packaging was found to be damaged, there is no evidence at this stage to suggest that an offence has been committed.

"No more action will be taken unless further information is received."

Publishers Penguin Randomhouse said they were "delighted" the theft did not appear to be for any malicious intent or financial gain but said they would be continuing their own investigations.

Fans can get their hands on the latest book from midnight tonight.
