Sturgeon: SNP will 'engage positively' with Westminster

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said the SNP will seek to "engage positively" with the Conservative government "but will exercise the influence that Scotland has given us".

She told ITV News: "The result of the election in Scotland can’t simply be ignored by David Cameron’s government. Scotland spoke overwhelmingly for an end to austerity, for greater investment in public services, and for a more empowered Scottish Parliament".

Lib Dems' Jo Swinson loses seat held for 10 years to SNP

The Lib Dems' Jo Swinson has lost the East Dunbartonshire seat she has held for 10 years to the SNP after a 16% swing to the party.

Formerly known as the 'baby of the house', Swinson, now 35, was the youngest MP in the House of Commons from 2005 to 2009.

She has previously been spokeswoman on Scotland and Foreign Affairs and is a junior equalities minister.
