Jeremy Clarkson's final scenes in Top Gear are expected to be screened later this summer.

Boss of BBC2 Kim Shillinglaw said they were a little short on material but "no way would I want it not to be seen by viewers".

Clarkson was sacked following his attack on BBC producer Oisin Tymon.

He is rumoured to be being replaced on the show but Shillinglaw would not be drawn on who would take over the role.

Asked if it would be a woman, she said: "I worked a lot with female presenters, and when I used to work in science that was something across the piste that I really wanted to tackle.

"But I don't think I've ever approached an individual show thinking that was the way I want to cast it so I think it's an open book on that. We'll definitely look at some women, but it's not a driving priority."

Clarkson has already expressed his desire to make another car show after saying he would miss working on Top Gear.
