The six-storey building, on the junction of Serle and Portugal Street in Holborn, collapsed on Monday evening.
It was currently under demolition, London Fire Brigade said.
Around 200 people from the building site and surrounding properties have been evacuated, the brigade added.
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
