Weather warning as gales continue to batter north and east England

The Met Office has issued a yellow 'be aware' warning as strong winds continue to hit parts of the UK.

Gusts of up to 50-60mph are forecast for the North East and North West of England, Yorkshire and Humber, the Midlands and the East of England.

Northwesterly gales are also forecast for Scotland and Northern Ireland and north Wales.

Queen Elizabeth II Bridge at Dartford Crossing closed due to high winds

The A282 Dartford Crossing Queen Elizabeth II Bridge has been closed to all vehicles due to strong winds, the Highways Agency said.

All southbound traffic is being diverted via the east bore (the high tunnel).

Chiltern Railways said services between Aylesbury and London Marylebone have been suspended because of a tree on the line between Moor Park and Amersham.
