The judge sentencing Gary Glitter has condemned the disgraced singer in the strongest possible terms, saying: "It is difficult to overstate the depravity of this dreadful behaviour."
The 70-year-old's youngest victim was younger than 10 years old when he crept into her bed and tried to rape her in 1975.
Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, attacked two girls, aged 12 and 13, after inviting them backstage to his dressing room, and isolating them from their mothers.
"All of this happened because and only because of your fame," Judge Alistair McCreath said. "You kept her in your room all night."
The judge said he noted Glitter had sought out professional help in 2011 but said he was in "no position to decide what your true motivation was in seeking this treatment" and had found no evidence that the former pop star had "atoned" for his offences.
