Eddie Redmayne wins Oscar as Birdman named Best Picture

'Birdman' has won the coveted Best Picture award at the Oscars along with honours for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.

Britain's Eddie Redmayne took the best actor Oscar for his portrayal as physicist Stephen Hawking in the biographical movie 'The Theory of Everything.'

Julianne Moore claimed the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in 'Still Alice'.

Eddie Redmayne has won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in 'The Theory of Everything'.

Speaking backstage after the ceremony in Los Angeles, Redmayne said: "For Stephen Hawking, the illness was of little interest to him. He lives forward, passionately."

On making the movie, he said: "When I watch a film, I believe what I see on screen. We felt a responsibility to tell their story."

The 33-year-old joked that the best actor win will give him some peace of mind about his future career.

"I've always had to fight for jobs. Retaining employment will keep me very happy," he said.
