Kayla Mueller: Obama confirms IS hostage's death

American aid worker Kayla Mueller - who was being held by Islamic State - has died, President Barack Obama has confirmed.

Ms Mueller's family said they were "heartbroken" at the news, and released a copy of a letter she had written in captivity.

Confirmation of Mueller's death comes days after Islamic State claimed the 26-year-old had died in a Jordanian air strike.

Mueller family 'heartbroken' over aid worker's death

The family of American IS hostage Kayla Mueller say they are "heartbroken" by news of her death.

“We're heartbroken to share we’ve received confirmation that Kayla Jean Mueller, has lost her life," Carl and Marsha Mueller said in a statement.

"Kayla was a compassionate and devoted humanitarian.

"She dedicated the whole of her young life to helping those in need of freedom, justice, and peace."
