The planned schedule will see two programmes featuring seven party leaders, with one further debate between David Cameron and Ed Miliband alone.

DUP taking 'legal advice' over TV debate exclusion

The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) has vowed to fight its proposed exclusion from UK-wide televised leaders' debates, warning it has hired top lawyers to examine a potential legal action.

DUP leader Peter Robinson said he hoped a change of stance by the four main broadcasters would avert the need for a courtroom showdown in London.

It is not possible for any rational argument to be put forward that says you have some of the regions there and not another.

We will fight for Northern Ireland's place if regional parties are to be part of that debate.

Legal advice is obviously the last step that you take, we have decided that at this stage we are going to ask key lawyers - we probably would have to fight this case in London as opposed to in Belfast - and we have asked key lawyers to look at the case and give us advice because none of these things are straightforward.
