French magazine Charlie Hebdo goes on sale in the UK

Hundreds of people queued from the early hours outside UK shops selling the latest edition of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

It comes as around 10 people have been arrested and questioned over the "possible logistical support" they may have provided three gunmen who carried out last week's attacks in Paris, Agence France-Presse reports.

Anti-Islam protests spring up in Germany

Demonstrations calling for tolerance of Muslims erupt across Germany, dwarfing a rally calling for tolerance.

Around 25,000 supporters of the Patriotic Europeans against the Islamisation of the West movement, or PEGIDA, staged a rally in Dresden yesterday.

The group has been gaining in popularity, especially in the east of Germany.

Clad in black armbands and with some carrying "Je Suis Charlie" placards and posters, the demonstrators held a 17 minute silence for the victims of the shootings in Paris last week.

Speaking to Reuters, co-founder Kathrin Oertel said: "We are getting more support each week.

"We are against all violence that is religiously motivated whether Muslim or Christian... people have been confronted by it now and are thinking about it more."

However, counter-demonstrations have sprung up across Germany, with 30,000 people attending an anti-PEGIDA rally in Leipzig, 20,000 in Munich and 8,000 in Dresden.

Similar demonstrations have also taken place in Hanover, Saarbruecken, Duesseldorf, Berlin, Hamburg and Rostock.

Chancellor Angela Merkel had earlier said that "Islam belongs to Germany" and said she would join a Muslim community rally at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate on Tuesday.
