Ice and snow warnings remain in place as cold snap continues

The Met Office has said the current cold weather alert will remain in place until 12pm Wednesday.

It comes as temperatures plunged as low as -8.7C in places on Monday night.

Snow and icy conditions has caused travel chaos across the country in recent days leaving many people stranded or having to abandon their vehicles overnight.

The Met Office have confirmed today that the current cold weather alert will remain in place until Wednesday.
