Clashes in California during 'choke hold death' protest

Police and protesters have clashed in California as the public expressed anger over a court's decision not to indict a white police officer over the death of unarmed black man, who died after being put into a "choke hold" by the officer.

A US Grand Jury decided not to charge New York officer Daniel Pantaleo over the death of Eric Garner who he arrested for allegedly selling un-taxed cigarettes..

The country's Attorney General, Eric Holder, has since announced a federal civil rights investigation into the case.

New York mayor calls for calm over Eric Garner 'choke hold'

The mayor of New York has tonight pleaded for a peaceful reaction after a grand jury failed to charge a white police officer over the death of an unarmed black man.

The decision comes just a week after riots broke out when a similar ruling was made in St Loius.
