Death toll from snowstorms in New York State rises to 12

At least 12 people have died as a result of snowstorms which have hit New York state in the US.

Around 5ft of snow has struck and a further three feet is forecast to hit, as the New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency for ten counties.

More snow falls overnight in New York State

Eight people have died in snowstorms in New York State where a year's worth of snow has fallen in three days.

Between five and six feet of snow has fallen since Tuesday, leaving motorists stranded and people trapped in their homes.
