A friend of Formula One legend Michael Schumacher has revealed the 45 year-old is making progress, but remains paralysed in a wheelchair without the ability to speak.

"Schumacher is better, but everything is relative," former F1 driver Philippe Streiff told F1i Magazine.

"He can't speak. He is paralyzed and is in a wheelchair. He has problems with memory and speech. As soon as he is with his family again, he will be able to recover faster, but it will be difficult."

Schumacher spent six months in a medically induced coma after suffering severe head injuries from a skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013.
