University awards Stephen Sutton honorary degree
Inspirational cancer campaigner Stephen Sutton is to be posthumously awarded an honorary degree.
The 19-year-old will receive the honorary doctorate of science from Coventry University in recognition of his outstanding contribution to highlighting the needs of young people with cancer.
The announcement comes on the same day his mother is to collect a posthumous MBE from the Queen later today on behalf of her son, who died in May following a four-year struggle against bowel cancer.
John Latham, Vice Chancellor, Coventry University, said: "Stephen's commendation is particularly fitting, not only in light of his wish to pursue a medical career, but also coming soon after the Teenage Cancer Trust announced it would be using part of the money he raised to fund scholarships for professionals to train at Coventry University. We're delighted to be supporting Stephen's legacy in this way."
