Obama admits Republicans had 'a good night'

President Barack Obama has conceded that the Republican party had a "good night" after they secured a majority in the US Senate in last night's midterm elections.

He said that the message from last night was that voters want to see the Washington gridlock eased.

Mr Obama will now face both a Senate and House of Representatives controlled by his political opponents, potentially scuppering any ambitions he has of pushing through his domestic agenda in the final two years of his presidency.

It is decision day in the United States. Millions are voting to decide whether to make it even harder for President Obama to run the country.

Mr Obama's opponents, the Republicans, already control the House of Representatives; they need just six seats to take the Senate, too.

If they win them, the President won't be able to achieve much at all in his final two years in office.
