South African football captain Senzo Meyiwa shot dead
South Africa football captain Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead by intruders when trying to protect his girlfriend during a robbery at her home near Johannesburg, officials said.
Police are offering a reward of 150,000 rand to anyone with information leading to the capture of Meyiwa's attackers.
The 27-year-old was a goalkeeper for Orlando Pirates and captained South Africa in their last four matches in the African Nations Cup qualifiers.
Meyiwa played on Saturday when his side advanced to the semi-finals of the South African League Cup.
