Daily unwanted automated calls 'top annoyance'

Unwanted calls from automated services about PPI claims annoy Brits more than anything else, according to a survey.

Some people were fielding as many as six unwanted automated calls every week, which proved so annoying they beat queue-jumpers to the top of what irritates Brits the most, a poll for BT found.

Three-quarters of Brits (74%) found automated calls the most frustrating aspect of modern life, with almost half (45%) refusing to answer their landline in order to dodge them.

Some people were fielding as many as six unwanted automated calls every week, which proved so annoying they beat queue-jumpers to the top of what irritates Brits the most, according to the survey from BT.

Three-quarters of Brits (74%) found automated calls the most frustrating aspect of modern life, with almost half (45%) refusing to answer their landline in order to dodge them.

A study earlier this year by the comparison site uSwitch found nuisance calls and texts are affecting the vast majority of people despite most having taken steps to eliminate them.

Almost nine in 10 telecoms users (87%) receive calls from withheld numbers, with 40% receiving them at least once a week and 9% at least one a day, the survey found.
