Newsreader Fiona Bruce has hit out at what she calls "hideously misogynistic" online abuse directed at female celebrities.

Bruce, who also presents the Antiques Roadshow, said she steered clear of social media after seeing the treatment other women had suffered.

She told the Radio Times: "I'm astonished at the freedom with which a depressingly large number of men feel they can just say what they want and write the most hideously misogynistic stuff about women."
