Maria Miller may still have to answer more questions from Parliament's standards committee, the report into the Culture Secretary's expenses claims says.
In the report's conclusion the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner, Kathryn Hudson, says:
"Since a very early initial meeting to discuss the process it has not been possible to arrange to meet Mrs Miller and the Standards Committee may think that it would be helpful to take more evidence from Mrs Miller at this stage, if they consider that there are unresolved issues."
Maria Miller handed in her resignation today, saying the row over her expenses had become 'an enormous distraction'.
It is possible that the Chancellor had come to a different conclusion from the PM as to which way the Maria Miller crisis was going.
The son of a Pakistani immigrant, the newly-appointed Culture Secretary has been tipped by some as a future Conservative leader.
