Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has said the search for missing flight MH370 is now "entering a new phase". He said the effort would now be "focussed on searching the ocean floor" over a "much larger area" than is currently being covered.

Govt receiving increasing criticism over search for plane

It is now well over a week since flight MH370 went missing and the Malaysian government is receiving increasing criticism over its handling of the crisis.

I spoke to an opposition politician earlier who said that Malaysia is not looking good on the world stage right now.

They have made mistakes including the military not detecting the plane when it re-routed, the length of time it has taken to get this many nations involved in the rescue effort and the drip-feed of information for families over the course of this past week.

Malaysia's transport minister Hishammuddin Hussein reacted strongly to the criticism saying the claims were "irresponsible".

There was very much a sense of repetition in today's media briefing, with similar questions and similar uninformative answers and that is because after 10 days this is still very much a mystery.

The government is trying to emphasise the enormity of this task still in hand, but also the need not to speculate.
