US grandmother wins £1.2m thanks to a fortune cookie

A 75-year-old woman from New York has won $2m (£1.2m) lottery prize after using numbers she found in a fortune cookie from a Chinese takeaway.

Emma Duvoll told the New York Post: “You check the numbers and check again, just to make sure. You don’t believe it in the beginning.”

She added: "I was surprised, but pleased".

The grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of one has revealed what she will do with her millions: "I plan to invest most of it and maybe take a trip to Switzerland to visit family.”
