Court in Pretoria has adjourned for the day after the chief defence lawyer in Oscar Pistorius' murder trial sought to undermine the prosecution evidence of a couple who say they heard a woman's screams and gunfire the night the athlete fatally shot his girlfriend.
Barry Roux argued that the banging sounds the neighbours heard were instead a distressed Pistorius hitting a toilet door with a cricket bat to get to fatally wounded girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The court also heard from witnesses of an incident during which it is alleged Oscar Pistorius discharged a firearm in a Johannesburg restaurant and asked friends to cover up his involvement, a month before Steenkamp's death.
The day's proceedings have been archived in this video:
Oscar Pistorius' defence will open their case on Friday and the Paralympic and Olympic athlete is expected to testify in the morning.
Oscar Pistorius was "probably not wearing his prosthetic legs" when he fatally shot his girlfriend, a forensic analyst told his trial.
Reporters discuss their views on the evidence while trays of coffee are passed along. At times it feels more like a cinema than a courtroom.
