Teen hanged himself after running up huge games bill

A teenager hanged himself after inadvertently downloading hundreds of pounds worth of computer games, an inquest has heard.

Henry Tattersall, 13, was said to be upset after his mother confronted him about downloading more than £420 worth of Xbox games on her credit card, the Rossendale Free Press reported.

The teenager sent his girlfriend a message on Facebook saying, "I'm going to kill myself", before hanging himself on November 25 last year.

His older sister discovered him hanging and tried to resuscitate, but the 13-year-old died an hour later at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Police also discovered messages that referred to the death of Declan Gattenby, 13, who was also found hanged in Lancashire on the boy's computer.

Delivering a verdict of misadventure at Burnley Coroners Court, Richard Taylor said he did not believe Henry had meant to kill himself because he had left his bedroom door open.

Speaking after the inquest, Henry's family described his death as a "massive avoidable loss".
