Pistorius' 'sorrow' on 1st anniversary of Reeva's death

Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has said he is "consumed with sorrow" on the first anniversary of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp's death.

It was on Valentine's Day last year that the double amputee shot and killed the model. The six-time paralympic sprint champion denies a charge of murder, maintaining he believed Reeva to be an intruder in his South African home.

In a statement posted on his website, Oscar describes the incident as a "devastating accident"

It reads: "No words can adequately capture my feelings about the devastating accident that has caused such heartache for everyone who truly loved - and continues to love Reeva.

"The pain and sadness – especially for Reeva’s parents, family and friends consumes me with sorrow. The loss of Reeva and the complete trauma of that day, I will carry with me for the rest of my life."

Pistorius' murder trial is expected to begin in March.
