Ambulance Service: 'Handover delays of great concern'

The Welsh Ambulance Service has said they were greatly concerned by handover delays following the death of a 58-year-old man who waited more than four hours in an ambulance before being admitted to the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend last week.

“We are saddened to hear of this patient’s death following their conveyance to hospital last Thursday, January 16 and extend our deepest condolences to the family," a Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said.

“Handover delays are of great concern to us and we are looking into this matter internally. We will fully support our Health Board colleagues and the Coroner with their investigations.

“We are unable to comment any further at this early stage.”
