The Environment Agency has warned communities along the River Thames throughout Surrey, Berkshire and Oxfordshire of the risk of further flooding, after it burst its banks. There are currently more than 70 flood warnings in place.
Rising flood waters have breached the banks at the Thames Barrier in east London while it remained closed against the high tide.
The capital's flood defence was closed for three hours this afternoon to protect people and property along the river, according to the Environment Agency.

A farm in Muchelney, Somerset, has been completely surrounded by floodwater following the recent storms, turning it into an island.
