British man accused of murdering baby 'via Skype'

The one-year-old girl died at the Rikshospitalet Hospital in Oslo in October 2010.

A British man is accused of taking part in the murder of a one-year-old girl in Norway "via Skype from England", a prosecutor said.

The girl's mother, from Norway, and her former boyfriend have been charged with murder after the baby died at the Rikshospitalet Hospital in Oslo in October 2010.

Cecilie Schlosser Moller, Prosecutor, claimed: "We believe the mother lowered her daughter's head into a bucket, resulting in that (the child) drowned, and that the boyfriend took part via Skype from England.

"We believe that the daughter was exposed to heavy abuse in about half a year before she died. There were various methods to raise her, from what we can understand.

"Among other things, she was forced to eat chili, was kept awake, had to stand in the corner with her legs tied up, and so on."

The 35-year-old man, who is custody in Oslo Prison, will plead not guilty, his defence lawyer said. The woman admitted abusing the child but denied killing her.
