Philpott loses sentence appeal
Mairead Philpott, who was jailed for 17 years for killing her six children in a house fire, had a challenge against the length of her sentence rejected today by Court of Appeal judges sitting at Nottingham Crown Court.
Prosecution: Mairead knew consequences of the crime
Richard Latham QC, prosecution for the Crown, said that while there is no dispute that Mairead Philpott "loved her children" that this was a planned crime "hatched over a period of time" and she knew the awful consequences of the plan.
