New York elects first Democratic mayor for 20 years
Liberal Democrat Bill de Blasio has won the New York City Mayoral race, the Associated Press reported.
The 52-year-old reportedly beat Republican rival Joe Lhota by a wide margin to become the city's 109th mayor and the first Democrat to hold the office in 20 years.
De Blasio will succeed Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire who is leaving after 12 years.
