The Prison Service says an incident at Maidstone Prison, involving 40 inmates, has now been resolved without injury. National resources were deployed to deal with the incident. A second incident at Rye Hill prison in Warwickshire was also resolved.
Officers at Maidstone Prison "feared for their lives" and were forced to retreat amid a prison riot involving up to 180 prisoners, Prison Officers Association vice chair Ralph Valerio has told ITV News.
The incident is still ongoing but has been contained within the prison's Thanet Wing, Mr Valerio said.
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
