Return of rickets 'ashaming'

England's chief medical officer has said the public should feel "profoundly ashamed" of a "very worrying picture" of children's health and called for the scheme of free vitamins to be extended to all under-fives to tackle the return of rickets.

Five more child deaths a day in UK than in Sweden

England's chief medical officer, Professor Dame Sally Davies, has said that there are five more child deaths in the UK every day than in Sweden.

She said that 40 percent of children in the UK have lower levels of vitamin D than they should have, partly as a result of not having enough exposure to sunlight.
