Around 100 conservative hardliners shouted "death to America" and threw eggs and shoes at Iran's President Rouhani's official car on his return from New York after his historic phone call with President Obama, according to Reuters.
The slogan has been widely used since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
The US president also shared a post on Twitter accusing Dr Anthony Fauci of misleading the public over hydroxychloroquine.
