In August, a teenager was sentenced for three years for his part in the gang rape and murder of a young woman on a bus in Delhi, last December.
The defendant - who cannot be named for legal reasons - was 17 at the time of the attack and was tried as a minor in a juvenile court.
Today, four men have received death sentences for the same attacks. A fifth man who had been facing trial was found dead in his cell in March.
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
